The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha Police successfully concluded the 8th State Police Inter-Battalion Commando Competition at Chandaka today, showcasing the exceptional skills and dedication of the state’s elite forces.

The event, which brought together 402 commandos from 17 armed battalions, highlighted rigorous challenges designed to test physical endurance, tactical precision, and teamwork.

The closing ceremony was graced by Binaytosh Mishra, Director General of Police (Crime Branch), as the chief guest. He felicitated the top-performing battalions and individual commandos, emphasising the importance of such competitions in enhancing operational readiness against emerging security threats.

OSAP 6th Battalion from Cuttack emerged as the champion team, demonstrating superior performance across various events. The 8th Special IRBN from Bhanjanagar secured the runners-up position, while the 4th IRBN from Deogarh clinched the prestigious Hard Liner Trophy for their resilience in high-intensity challenges.

Individual accolades were also a highlight of the ceremony. Constable Chan Bhue was honoured as the Best Commando and received the Cheetah Trophy for his outstanding all-around abilities. Havildar Keshab Dharua was recognised as the Second Best Commando, earning praise for his tactical prowess.

Participants competed in gruelling events, including an obstacle course, a 1.3 km confidence run while carrying a 5 kg backpack, a cross-country march with the same load, and precision firing drills. These activities not only tested physical fitness but also mental fortitude, fostering a spirit of discipline and sportsmanship among the commandos.

The event was attended by prominent officials, including Additional Director General of Police (Modernisation) Saumendra Priyadarshi, Additional Director General of Police (Armed) Rajesh Kumar, SOG Commandant Lochan Pasayat, and Sports Officer Nila Madhab Swain. Their presence underscored the Odisha Police’s commitment to modernising and strengthening its special forces.

All participants exhibited high-level professionalism, with the competition serving as a platform to refine skills essential for counter-insurgency, anti-Maoist operations, and other high-risk duties. The SOG’s initiative in organising this annual event continues to play a vital role in building a robust, agile police force ready to safeguard the state.
