A disturbing case of suspected human trafficking has emerged from the Kalia Pani area of Odisha’s Jajpur district, where a minor tribal girl was allegedly sold in Madhya Pradesh and later married by the buyer.
According to police sources, the victim was lured by a friend—one of two sisters from Sansailo village—under the guise of a pilgrimage and sightseeing trip. The younger sister, who had befriended the girl during their stay at a high school hostel in Kuhika, reportedly took her to Madhya Pradesh on July 27. A day later, the girl informed her family she was safe, but subsequent photos and videos revealed she had been sold and married.
The victim had recently passed her matric exams and enrolled at Sukinda College. Her sudden disappearance raised concerns, prompting her family to lodge a formal complaint. Evidence submitted includes digital media sent by the girl from Madhya Pradesh.
Kalinganagar ASP Suprasanna Mallik confirmed that an investigation is underway, and both accused sisters are under the police scanner.
This case has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of tribal minors and the need for stricter surveillance on inter-state trafficking networks.
