Bhubaneswar: Odisha Labour Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia on Monday directed the Principal Secretary of the Labour Department to investigate the gas leak at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and submit a report.
Describing the gas leak from the blast furnace of RSP as most unfortunate, Minister Singkhuntia said, “Stringent action will be taken against those found responsible for the mishap”.
As per reports, nine workers, of which six were contractual, fell ill due to the gas leak in blast furnace No. 5 of Rourkela Steel Plant at 10:15 AM on Monday.

The Minister of State (Ind.Charge) Singkhuntia informed that the Deputy Director and Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers rushed to the gas leak site at the plant to take stock of the situation.
All nine injured workers were first admitted to the RSP’s Primary Health Centre, where one was discharged after receiving oxygen. The remaining eight workers were shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH).
“All eight workers are out of danger and are being treated in the ICU of IGH”, Director of Factories and Boilers Bibhu Prasad informed.
Further, the Director of Factories and Boilers has been asked to investigate the gas leak incident and submit a report to the Principal Secretary of the Labour Department.
