Odisha’s Housing & Urban Development Minister, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, visited the state-of-the-art Waste-to-Energy Plant in Okhla, which is managed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The plant currently processes around 2,000 metric tonnes (MT) of municipal solid waste daily and generates approximately 23 megawatts (MW) of green energy. During his visit, the Minister held detailed discussions with the officials about the plant’s operations, technology, and best practices. Plans to expand the facility’s capacity to process 3,000 MT of waste and produce 30 MW of energy were also shared with him.

Impressed by the plant’s efficiency and effectiveness, Dr. Mahapatra emphasised that such initiatives could play a crucial role in tackling waste management challenges while contributing to clean energy generation in Odisha. He assured that the concept would be seriously considered for implementation to promote sustainable waste management practices.

Mr. Sandeep Dutta, Head of Project Management for the Okhla Waste-to-Energy Management Plant, along with senior officers from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, provided insights into the facility’s operations and accompanied Dr. Mahapatra during his visit. Mr. Binay Dash, Additional Secretary of H&UD in Odisha, was also present.

The Minister praised the efforts of the Municipal Corporation and the plant management team for their innovative approach in transforming waste into a valuable energy resource, which aligns with the goals of a cleaner and greener India.
