Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a government holiday on August 29, 2025—the day following Nuakhai, Wsetern Odisha’s prominent agrarian festival.
This decision acknowledges the emotional and cultural significance of the day when families reunite, exchange greetings known as “Nuakhai Juhar,” and participate in various cultural programs.
Nuakhai, observed annually, marks the harvest and is deeply rooted in the agrarian lifestyle of Western Odisha. While the festival day itself has long been recognized with an official holiday, the following day holds equal importance for social and familial bonding. Recognizing this, the Chief Minister has declared August 29 (Friday) as a holiday for all government offices and executive magistrate courts.
To balance the calendar, September 13, 2025 (Second Saturday), will now be observed as a working day across government institutions. This adjustment ensures that administrative efficiency is maintained while respecting regional traditions.
