In a significant move aimed at bolstering healthcare services and recognising the demanding responsibilities of doctors, the Odisha government’s Health and Family Welfare Department has announced an increase in the post-mortem allowance for medical officers.

As per Resolution No. 965 dated January 9, 2026, the allowance provided to medical officers under the Odisha Medical Health Service (OMHS) cadre for conducting post-mortems has been doubled. Previously set at Rs 500 per case, the revised allowance now stands at Rs 1,000 per case.

This enhancement is expected to motivate healthcare professionals involved in forensic duties, ensuring more efficient and dignified handling of such critical procedures.

The department has mandated that claims for this allowance must include the relevant police case number to streamline verification and processing.

The decision has received concurrence from the Finance Department, paving the way for its immediate implementation across the state.
