A powerful hailstorm lashed Sunabeda village in the Komna Block of Nuapada district, leaving behind destruction and despair.
The storm, which lasted for around 30 minutes, caused significant damage to strawberry and vegetable crops, impacting the livelihood of numerous farmers in the region.
Massive hailstones shattered the roofs of many houses, leaving villagers Sunil Sahu, Pandu Kuldeep, and Binod Sahu among those whose homes and belongings suffered extensive damage. In addition to damaged furniture, the aftermath revealed the heartbreaking sight of birds killed during the storm.
Reports highlight crop destruction on a large scale. Kali Ram Sahu’s one-acre onion plantation, and Yuvraj Chhatria’s one-acre strawberry farm, along with half an acre of tomato, brinjal, and maize, have been completely ruined. Similarly, Maharaj Chhatria’s 30-decimal brinjal farm and Dasharath Chhatria’s 30-decimal tomato field were wiped out in the calamity.
Farmers have urged the district administration for immediate assessment and compensation to mitigate their heavy losses.
