The Odisha Government has approved the appointment of 6,387 retired teachers as guest faculty to fill teaching vacancies in various secondary schools.
These educators will serve in grant-in-aid high schools, block grant high schools, and Sanskrit TOL schools until regular appointments are finalised.
This move mirrors similar practices already prevalent in colleges and universities, expanding the guest teacher provision to the school level. According to the School and Mass Education Minister, Nityananda Gond, district education officers have been directed to report subject-wise vacancies to the Secondary Education Directorate. Based on these reports, temporary guest teachers will be appointed to ensure uninterrupted education for students.
Government sources reveal that the Directorate of Secondary Education has already issued formal instructions to facilitate the reappointment process. Once regular TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) recruitment is completed, the guest educators will be relieved of their duties.
Minister Gond emphasised that this step is an interim measure to bridge the teaching gap and prevent any disruption in student learning during the academic session.
