With summer approaching, the Odisha government is stepping up efforts to prevent a drinking water crisis across the state.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced that a dedicated control room will soon be operational to monitor water supply issues and swiftly address public complaints.

“We are committed to ensuring no household faces water scarcity. Any water-related issue will be resolved within 2 to 3 hours of being reported,” said the minister while addressing the media.

Key Initiatives:
Quick Response Helpline: A 24×7 control room will be set up to receive and address complaints related to water supply.

Tankers on Standby: If required, additional water tankers will be deployed to meet local needs.

Improved Coordination: Departments including OWSS, WATCO, and the Health Department are working together to enhance the water distribution system.

Infrastructure Expansion:
The state also plans to construct new barrages to better utilize available river water. Currently, only 17% of the water is being tapped, while the rest flows unused into the sea. The new infrastructure will help conserve and direct more water for drinking and other essential purposes.

Clean Water for All by 2027:
The Odisha government has set an ambitious target to provide 24×7 clean drinking water to every household by the year 2027. The minister emphasized that water conservation and sustainable usage will be key to achieving this goal.

With proactive planning and quick-response mechanisms in place, the state aims to ensure a water-secure summer for all residents.
