The Odisha government has announced that it will distribute 50,000 Antyodaya houses on September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik shared that the distribution will be part of the Antyodaya Housing Scheme, aimed at providing shelter to economically weaker sections.

The Antyodaya Housing Scheme aims to provide permanent shelter to economically disadvantaged families, including persons with disabilities, widows, patients, and other vulnerable groups. Over one lakh beneficiaries have already been included under the scheme, and the upcoming distribution will further expand its reach.

Minister Naik emphasized that the initiative will help eligible families secure pucca houses, addressing long-standing housing challenges in rural Odisha. Priority will be given to differently-abled individuals, leprosy patients, and extremely poor households.

The scheme was formally launched on March 30 by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in Kalahandi district. It complements the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-G), under which work order distribution will begin in November.

According to the minister, 35 lakh beneficiaries have applied under the new PMAY survey, including 3 lakh through online channels. Administrative officers have completed identification and scrutiny processes, and final decisions will be made by November following consultations with central officials.

Minister Naik also stated that construction of remaining houses under PMAY-G is being expedited, with 24.7 lakh homes already completed out of the targeted 28.29 lakh. Coordination with the Revenue Department is underway to resolve land-related issues.
