The Odisha government raised bus fares across all categories following a sharp rise in diesel prices, according to an order issued by the State Transport Authority on June 2.
The fare revision came after diesel prices climbed from Rs 95.87 per litre on May 15 to Rs 100.68 per litre on May 31, 2026, prompting an increase of Rs 4.81 per litre in direct cost. The new rates apply to all stage carriages operating within the state, excluding town buses.
Under the revised structure, ordinary buses will now charge 92 paise per km instead of 90, while express buses will cost 96 paise per km instead of 94. Deluxe fares rose from Rs 1.31 to Rs 1.35 per km, A.C. Deluxe from Rs 1.59 to Rs 1.63, and Super Deluxe from Rs 2.47 to Rs 2.53 per km.
Transport officials said the adjustment reflects cumulative fuel cost increases and ensures operational sustainability for bus operators. The new fares take effect immediately upon issuance of the order.
