Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has intervened in the distressing incident involving Soumyashree Bishi, a student at Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, who is currently battling for her life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar following an alleged suicide attempt.

The Governor has demanded an immediate report from the state government, seeking clarity on the circumstances and reasons behind the incident, along with prompt and exemplary action against those responsible.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has sparked widespread concern. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik had urged the Governor, in his capacity as Chancellor of the university, to take urgent action.

The Governor also held discussions with AIIMS Bhubaneswar authorities to ascertain the condition of the victim. Soumyashree remains in critical condition, with no improvement reported.

Dr. Kambhampati has instructed the government to handle the matter with utmost sensitivity and to take legal action against those responsible. He stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of the incident to prevent such occurrences in the future. The state government has assured the Governor that all necessary steps are being taken to address the situation.
