Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Monday for a formal meeting focused on the state’s development agenda and the welfare of its people.
The meeting took place barely two weeks after Ram assumed office as the 28th Governor of Odisha. He was sworn in on October 18, 2026, at Lok Bhavan in Bhubaneswar by Orissa High Court Chief Justice Harish Tandon, following his appointment by President Droupadi Murmu on October 12. Ram, a three-time former Lok Sabha MP from Palamu in Jharkhand and a senior BJP leader, succeeded Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati.
Discussions centred on ongoing and future developmental initiatives in Odisha as well as measures aimed at improving the welfare of the state’s residents.
Such courtesy calls by newly appointed governors are a standard part of India’s federal system. They allow the constitutional head of a state to brief the Prime Minister on regional priorities and seek central support for key projects.
Braj Mohan Ram, born in 1958 in what is now Latehar district of Jharkhand, previously served as an MLA in undivided Bihar and as a Lok Sabha member from Palamu in 1996, 1998, and 1999. Before his gubernatorial appointment, he headed the BJP’s Scheduled Caste Morcha in Jharkhand.
