The Odisha government is grappling with a severe administrative crisis, as numerous key bureaucratic positions across the state remain unfilled.
The alarming situation was highlighted during the recent Odisha Assembly session, where Chief Minister Mohan Majhi responded to a question raised by MLA Tankadhar Tripathy regarding the status of administrative vacancies.
According to official data, 67 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and 69 Indian Police Service (IPS) positions are currently vacant in Odisha.
Widespread Shortages Across Services
The crisis extends beyond IAS and IPS positions, with several other critical administrative services facing staff shortages:
69 Indian Forest Service (IFS) posts
253 Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and Odisha Police Service (OPS) vacancies
274 Odisha Finance Service (OFS) posts
611 Odisha Forest Service (OFS) vacancies
263 Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) positions
Governance at Risk
The large-scale vacancies have raised concerns about governance and public service efficiency in the state. Experts warn that delays in recruitment and promotions are further exacerbating the issue, affecting district-level administration and public service delivery.
To prevent governance disruptions, the state government is expected to expedite recruitment and address the shortages at the earliest.
