Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Tuesday issued a stern warning to fertiliser dealers, cautioning them against supplying agricultural inputs for illegal ganja cultivation.
Speaking to reporters, Singh Deo said fertilisers are meant to support farmers in legitimate agricultural practices, not to aid the narcotics trade. “It has come to light that some fertiliser dealers are supplying fertilisers for marijuana cultivation, and action will be taken against those found involved,” he stated.
The warning comes amid allegations that fertilisers intended for crop production are being diverted to ganja fields. Singh Deo emphasised that the government has taken serious note of the issue and will initiate strict punitive measures against violators.
The move underscores Odisha’s broader efforts to curb narcotics cultivation and safeguard agricultural resources for genuine farmers.
