In response to the rising cases of diarrhoea in multiple regions, the Odisha government has dispatched a specialised medical team to affected areas.
The emergency action comes as reports indicate a surge in waterborne illnesses due to severe weather conditions.
The special state team includes expert doctors, health advisors, and medical staff trained to handle outbreak situations. Their mission is to provide immediate treatment, raise public awareness, and coordinate with local healthcare units for efficient disease management.
At the direction of the Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Smt. Ahwathi S, four state-level teams have been dispatched to observe field activities. These teams consist of senior officers, experts, and advisors from the department.
Key members of the teams include Joint Director Dr. Ashok Kumar Paikray, Consultant Dr. Kallol Das, IRT member Surajit Garabadu, Dr. Asit Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Prabhakar Sahu, and Consultant Shri Anup.
The teams will visit various locations, including Bhuban, Banki, Dharmashala, Badachana, and Bhandarpokhari, to inspect activities related to diarrhoea control and to enhance coordination among different departmental operations.
Their inspections will focus on the purification of water sources, door-to-door campaigns, early detection and primary treatment of diarrhoea patients, distribution of medicines and halogen tablets, and public awareness programs. Additionally, they will provide necessary advice and support to the local teams.
State officials confirmed that the intervention aims to curb the spread of diarrhoea and prevent further fatalities. The initiative involves household visits, medical supply distribution, clean drinking water assessments, and strengthened sanitation measures.
Citizens are urged to follow hygiene protocols and seek medical help at the earliest symptoms. The state government has assured continued monitoring and support until the crisis is resolved.
