Odisha has witnessed a sharp spike in cybercrime, with 3,486 cases registered in just 16 months.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed the figures in the Assembly while responding to a query from MLA Rama Chandra Kadam.
The financial impact has been staggering. Victims lost a total of Rs 222 crore to cybercriminals. However, investigators managed to refund Rs 61.36 lakh to victims and froze bank accounts worth Rs 6.74 crore to prevent further misuse.
Majhi emphasised that the government is tightening its grip on cyber fraud networks and strengthening digital security measures.
