Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will inaugurate the state’s first Watermanship and Life Guard Institute on Friday, alongside the launch of the seventh edition of the Konark Eco Retreat. The twin events mark a major advancement in Odisha’s efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure, water safety, and emergency response capabilities.
Modern Watermanship & Life Guard Institute Near Ramachandi Peeth
The state-of-the-art institute, built near Ramachandi Peeth by the Odisha Fire and Emergency Services Department at a cost of Rs 12 crore, aims to strengthen professional skills in water-based rescue operations.

Officials stated that the institute will equip personnel with advanced lifesaving and emergency management skills.
Officials Review Preparations Ahead of Inauguration
Ahead of the launch, Puri District Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida and Fire and Emergency Services DIG Umashankar Dash inspected the site to review the final preparations.
Konark Eco Retreat Offers Premium Seaside Experience
Organised annually by the Odisha Tourism Department near the mouth of the Kushabhadra River, the Konark Eco Retreat will feature 70 luxury tent cottages this year. The seaside retreat promises guests a premium stay experience during Odisha’s vibrant winter tourism season.
Dignitaries to Attend Twin Events
In addition to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, senior officials, and dignitaries are expected to attend both inauguration programmes.
Institute Aims to Operate at National Level
DIG Umashankar Dash highlighted that the institute, developed with significant state investment, is designed to function as a national-level training centre.
“The Watermanship and Life Guard Institute will play a vital role in training personnel for lifeguard duties, water sports safety, beach safety, and enhancing the skills of Fire Services teams,” he said.
