In a decisive move to curb corruption, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has sacked two government officials on the same day, reinforcing his administration’s zero-tolerance stance.
The officials, implicated in separate corruption cases, were dismissed to set a strong precedent for accountability in public service.
The first official, Babilata Behera, a former Supply Inspector of Kaniha Block in Angul district, was dismissed from service following her conviction in a bribery case. Currently serving as a Supply Inspector in Baripada district’s Supply Office, Behera was found guilty by the Angul Vigilance Special Judge, who sentenced her for accepting bribes during her tenure in Kaniha. Upon learning of the conviction, CM Majhi ordered her immediate dismissal, emphasizing that corrupt practices will not be tolerated.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also sacked Dr. Karunakar Rout, the former Medical Officer of Madhuban Community Health Centre in Jajpur district, for similar charges of corruption. These swift actions underscore the state government’s commitment to rooting out malpractices and restoring public trust in governance.
The dismissals come as part of a broader crackdown on corruption, with the Chief Minister directing officials to act promptly and decisively against those found guilty. “Corruption erodes the foundation of good governance. We are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability at all levels,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office read.
