Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a gathering at Vigyan Bhawan to mark the centenary of the historic 1925 conversation between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi.
Hailing the occasion as “unprecedented,” he underscored the meeting’s timeless resonance in shaping a just, unified, and spiritually grounded India.
Calling Sree Narayana Guru “a great treasure for all of humanity,” Modi praised the saint’s defiance of social evils and his message of equality through spiritual awakening. “The mantra of ‘One caste, one religion, one God for mankind’ remains a guiding philosophy even today,” he noted.
Highlighting initiatives like the PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Skill India, Modi linked the government’s current development model to the Guru’s trinity of ideals—education, organisation, and industry. He credited Guru’s transformative work in empowering marginalised communities and women, echoing modern India’s push for women-led development and grassroots upliftment.
The PM also reflected on his personal bond with the Sivagiri Mutt, dating back to the 2013 Kedarnath disaster when he aided stranded members of the community. “That sense of spiritual kinship and trust is a source of strength,” he recalled.
Modi asserted that India’s modern reforms—from national education policy to defence self-reliance—reflect the ethos championed by Guru and Gandhi. “India sees Narayana in every being. We are a civilisation built on unity in diversity, and this legacy continues to guide us,” he said.
With the government now developing the Sivagiri Circuit to honour sites associated with Sree Narayana Guru, Modi concluded with a call to “carry this torch of harmony, reform, and spiritual empowerment through Amrit Kaal.”
