Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved the Works department’s design for Odia University at Van Vidyalaya in Satyabadi in Puri district.
The Van Vidyalaya was established by Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das. Odia University will be designed in accordance with the style of Van Vidyalaya that focuses on imparting education in an appropriate atmosphere.
Sources said the blueprint will be given the final shape in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary. The Van Vidaylaya of Utkalmani was the centre of excellence in the yesteryears. A number of prominent persons who have contributed to the progress of Odisha were taught in this school.
It was a model school where Gopabandhu Das, Krupasindhu Mishra, Harihar Das, Pandit Nilakantha Das and Pandit Godabarish Mishra known as Panchasakha had provided much-needed direction to the efflorescence of education.
Odia language has been recognized as the sixth Indian language of classical language and it has rich legacy.
The meeting was coordinated by CM’s 5T Secretary V K Pandian. Satyabadi MLA Umakant Samatray, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Development Commissioner P K Jena and other officials were present on the occasion.
