The Odisha government’s ongoing ‘Odia Pakhya’ celebrations spotlighted the state’s vibrant handloom tradition today through ‘Paridhan Dibasa.’

Observed on the third day of the 14-day cultural initiative, this event urged residents to proudly wear traditional handloom attire as a mark of cultural pride and heritage preservation.

The Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts department is spearheading the campaign, themed “Ama Poshak, Ama Parichaya” (Our Ethnic Wear, Our Identity), to showcase Odisha’s textile legacy. Commissioner-cum-Secretary Poonam Guha Tapas Kumar emphasized that this program is a vital effort to foster greater adoption of indigenous fabrics.

State-run outlets, including Boyanika, Utkalika, and Sambalpuri Bastralaya, are offering special discounts to encourage purchases of handloom products. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Minister Suryabanshi Suraj have both praised the initiative’s role in providing financial support to local weavers and revitalizing the rural economy.

By celebrating Odisha’s exquisite handloom tradition, ‘Paridhan Dibasa’ aims to bridge the gap between modern fashion and cultural identity, reaffirming the state’s commitment to preserving its rich heritage.
