In a significant effort to promote renewable energy and support the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Mufti Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), the Odisha Cabinet approved an additional subsidy for rooftop solar projects in the state on Friday.
This decision aims to encourage both residential households and housing societies to adopt solar energy, reduce reliance on conventional electricity, and contribute to carbon neutrality. Under the new plan, the Odisha Government will provide a subsidy of Rs 25,000 per kilowatt for rooftop solar installations, applicable up to 2 kilowatts per household. For the third kilowatt, an extra subsidy of Rs 10,000 will be offered.
Group Housing Societies (GHS) and Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) will also benefit from this initiative, receiving financial assistance of Rs 18,000 per kilowatt for projects up to 500 kilowatts, with a maximum of 3 kilowatts allowed per household.
This program will be implemented over three years, from 2024-25 to 2026-27, with a total cost of Rs 1,800 crore to the state government. It is expected to benefit approximately 3 lakh domestic electricity consumers across Odisha. This subsidy is anticipated to accelerate the adoption of solar energy in residential areas, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
