Odisha Government has decided to create four new Tahasils to strengthen administrative efficiency and improve public service delivery in urban areas.
According to an official communication issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, two additional Tahasils will be carved out of the existing Bhubaneswar Tahasil, while one each will be created by bifurcating Cuttack and Sambalpur Tahasils.
The move comes in response to challenges faced by these large Tahasils, which include vast geographical areas, rising population density, and increasing demand for diverse public services.
Collectors of Khurda, Cuttack, and Sambalpur have been directed to submit detailed proposals within seven days. These proposals must include the proposed locations, headquarters, names of R.I. Circles and villages to be tagged, digital sketch maps, staffing requirements, and financial implications.
The government has emphasised that the restructuring is aimed at ensuring geographical contiguity, administrative convenience, and better service delivery to citizens. The directive has been marked “Extremely Urgent,” underscoring the priority attached to the initiative.
