The Odisha government has announced the introduction of a new school syllabus for Classes 1 to 8, set to be implemented in the 2026-27 academic session.
This updated syllabus aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focuses on promoting regional culture, language, and heritage to foster a deeper understanding of local traditions.
Additionally, the government clarified the minimum age for school admission. Unlike the central guideline of six years by March 1, Odisha has set the cut-off as six years by September 1. This approach aims to suit the state’s educational framework while addressing concerns raised during recent debates on age criteria.
These changes represent an effort to modernize the state’s education system while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
