A pall of grief descended on Bhatangpada village in Kalahandi district after the body of migrant worker Niran Bibhar (36) returned home three days after his tragic death in Hyderabad.
Niran, son of late Thurlu Bibhar, had migrated two months ago to work at a brick kiln in Ramantapur, Medak district, along with his relative Karun Bibhar. On Saturday afternoon, he reportedly came into contact with a live electric wire while at work, sustaining critical injuries. Despite being rushed to Tofan Hospital by co-workers and locals, he succumbed shortly after receiving primary treatment.
With his father already deceased, Niran had been the sole breadwinner for his family, supporting his mother Gauri, wife Hem, daughters Priya (12) and Reena (6), and son Rihan (3). The sudden tragedy has left the family shattered.
Due to financial constraints, the family struggled to bring the body back. Following intervention by local committee member Rupendra Chhatria and negotiations with the kiln owner, arrangements were made to send the body home. The owner also provided Rs 10,000 for funeral expenses.
On Tuesday morning, the ambulance carrying Niran’s body reached his native village, where a grief-stricken community gathered for the final rites. Villagers have urged the administration to extend government assistance to the bereaved family, highlighting the recurring plight of migrant workers from the region.
