Nuapada witnessed a shocking incident when migrant worker Bidyadhar Majhi from Junapani Khaliabhata under Khariar police station was allegedly abducted from a train, electrocuted, and set on fire.

The brutal act came to light after local media reports, prompting immediate intervention by authorities.

On Friday, District Labour Officer Jasmin Sahu, Khariar SDPO Upendra Pradhan, Khariar IIC Dilip Kumar Sahu, and Congress youth leader Kamal Charan Tandi visited Majhi’s residence. They interacted with the victim and recorded his statement regarding the attack. Majhi detailed the ordeal to the officials, demanding strict action against those responsible.

Following the revelations, Khariar police registered a case against local labour contractor Hitesh Kumar and brick kiln owner A.R. Madhav. According to the complaint, both allegedly attempted to kill Majhi after exploiting him for work without proper registration. The victim accused them of orchestrating the attack and urged immediate arrests.

District Labour Officer Jasmin Sahu confirmed that an investigation has begun. She stated that such barbaric acts against workers cannot be tolerated. She further added that contractors who recruit labourers without registration will face legal action. The officer assured that Majhi would receive assistance from the Red Cross.

The incident has sparked outrage in the region, highlighting the vulnerability of migrant workers and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of labour laws. Police teams continue their probe, while demands grow for swift justice and accountability.
