The bye-election for the 71-Nuapada assembly constituency is progressing without major disruptions, with voting reported as smooth and peaceful across all booths, including sensitive and women-managed Sakhi polling stations. As of 3:00 PM, the voter turnout has reached an impressive approximate 65.20%, reflecting strong participation from the electorate in this crucial poll.
Election officials have confirmed that the process remains orderly, with continuous monitoring ensuring transparency. However, a few minor technical issues were addressed promptly to maintain the integrity of the voting. At booth number 298, one Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine was replaced to resolve a malfunction. Similarly, at booth number 80, one Ballot Unit (BU), one Control Unit (CU), and one VVPAT were swapped out to keep operations running seamlessly.
In a stricter measure to uphold electoral secrecy, the presiding officer of booth number 46 has been suspended for violating protocol. Authorities emphasized that such actions are part of their commitment to a free and fair process.
The entire polling activity is under real-time surveillance via CCTV cameras, allowing swift interventions from both district and state headquarters. “We are addressing any concerns immediately to guarantee a transparent bye-election in Nuapada,” stated an official from the election monitoring team.
With polling set to continue until the evening, observers anticipate a final turnout that could exceed expectations, underscoring the constituency’s active democratic engagement. Updates will follow as the day progresses.
