Nor’wester Unleashes Gusty Winds, Rains in Twin City; Weather Alerts Issued

A Nor’wester storm swept through the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Thursday night, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall that provided much-needed relief from the scorching heat.


The sudden weather shift led to a noticeable drop in temperature, offering respite to residents battling intense summer conditions. Similar weather patterns were also reported in several districts across Odisha due to ongoing seasonal transitions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for today and tomorrow.

A total of 14 districts in Odisha are now under weather alert. Coastal and northern parts of the state are expected to experience gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 km per hour. These stormy conditions are likely to persist for the next five to six days, which could bring significant relief from prevailing heatwave conditions.

The Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre has also predicted spells of rain and thundershowers in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack over the next two days.

Authorities have urged people in the affected districts to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to heavy rain and strong winds. Coastal and interior regions have been advised to take safety measures. Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve after April 13.
