Odisha driver strike fuel supply

In response to the ongoing statewide driver strike, the Government of Odisha has taken swift and coordinated measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and essential commodities.

Spearheaded by the Commerce & Transport Department, the state is proactively working to maintain logistical stability across all districts.

A high-level review meeting, chaired by Commerce & Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena on 9th July, brought together senior officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director General of Police, and representatives from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). The meeting focused on assessing ground realities and formulating a robust response strategy.

To mitigate disruption, a multi-agency task force has been constituted, involving personnel from the Commerce & Transport Department, police, district administrations, and OMCs. The team is tasked with 24/7 monitoring, logistical troubleshooting, and facilitating the movement of petroleum and critical goods with necessary police escort when required.

Minister Jena emphasised the government’s openness to dialogue with protesting drivers and urged them to reconsider their strike for the greater good of the public and the economy. Meanwhile, OMCs have confirmed sufficient fuel availability statewide, and routine replenishments are proceeding without interruption.

Citizens have been requested to remain calm, avoid panic buying, and refrain from circulating unverified updates on social media. The government reiterates its firm commitment to public welfare, ensuring normalcy, safety, and continuous supply of essentials.
