The gang had gathered inside an abandoned house near Ghadaghadi Temple under Town PS jurisdiction.
Acting on intelligence from night patrols, police challenged the suspects, who responded with gunfire using a 7.65 mm pistol. Officers took cover and tactically surrounded the house, arresting all nine without casualties.
The arrested individuals include Ganesh @ Biswajit Giri, Priyadarshan Pradhan, Parsuram Pradhan, Nirmal Pradhan, Subhasis Giri, Ranjan Palei, Binod Munda, Rohit Naik, and Md. Jishan. They hail from Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jharkhand.
Police seized five pistols, seven magazines, 25 live rounds, fired cartridges, two swords, two “katuris,” an iron rod, a black Mahindra Thar (OD 02 BR 7001), and incriminating items like beer bottles, chillams, and cigarette butts.
Ganesh Giri allegedly masterminded the operation. The gang was preparing for a violent robbery when police intervened. Their arrest followed Keonjhar Town P.S. Case No. 780/2025 under Sections 310(4)/310(5)/109(1) BNS, 2023 and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act, 1959.
