A woman has been arrested for the murder of her five-year-old daughter in Kotsalai village of Subarnapur district.
On February 24, Ashalata Mohapatra allegedly strangled her child using a saree after experiencing a disturbing dream.
Initially registered as an unnatural death, the post-mortem revealed suffocation as the cause. Following a detailed investigation, Mohapatra confessed to the crime, leading to her arrest two months later. The police have presented her in court while further inquiries continue.
The case, revealed by the Sub-divisional Police Officer in a press conference, highlights the heartbreaking consequences of mental distress and the urgent need for awareness and support.
