Villagers in Dharapgad under Saintala police station rescued a newborn baby girl after they heard her cries coming from a lane near the houses of Raj Kumar Bisoi and Narada Rana.
Neighbours rushed to the spot, spotted the infant, and immediately informed the local Anganwadi worker, ASHA worker, and the village Sarpanch, who arrived shortly afterwards. Saintala police officer Khagapati Biswal and CDPO Golapi Nayak responded quickly.
They picked up the baby and took her to Saintala hospital, where doctors gave her primary treatment. The identity of the parents remains unknown, sparking widespread discussion in the area. Childline and members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) from Bolangir reached the hospital and shifted the infant to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for advanced care.
Doctors confirmed the baby girl is healthy and stable. Officials assured that the child will receive care as per government guidelines. Local speculation points to the possibility of the baby being born from an illicit relationship. Satya Narayan Panda, president of a farmers’ organisation, demanded an impartial probe and strict action against those responsible.
