The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), which operates under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors Limited (TML) on July 9, 2025.
This landmark agreement aims to promote tribal inclusion and stimulate economic growth.
This five-year collaboration opens doors for tribal youth completing Class XII from Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) to enrol in the renowned Kaushalya Program—a hybrid model blending academic rigour with hands-on training. The initiative is expected to benefit over 50,000 students across 28 states and 8 union territories.
Key Highlights of the MoU
- Eligible students (aged 18–23, 60%+ in 10th grade) will be inducted into an “Earn & Learn” structure combining Diploma in Engineering, weekly classroom sessions, and On-the-Job Training (OJT) in alignment with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
- Participants will receive monthly stipends, subsidised meals and transportation, uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), and full insurance coverage.
- High performers can pursue higher education, such as B.Tech, through sponsored tie-ups like BITS Pilani WILP.
- Upon completion, Tata Motors will offer job placements adhering to a “One Trainee, One Job” policy at their manufacturing/service hubs nationwide.
Oversight & Outcomes
A Joint Review Committee with members from both NESTS and TML will monitor progress. The initiative aligns with national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to create self-reliant communities through structured education and employability.
This pact underscores India’s push toward inclusive growth, ensuring tribal students are not just educated—but empowered with industry-ready skills and sustainable livelihoods.
