Odisha is set to welcome Nestlé India’s first manufacturing facility in the eastern region, as the global food and beverage giant laid the foundation stone for its new plant in Khurda on Thursday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi graced the groundbreaking ceremony and lauded Nestlé’s investment in the state.
This new unit marks Nestlé India’s tenth factory in the country and is being built with an initial outlay of approximately ₹900 crore in its first phase. The facility will focus on producing items from the company’s food division, including ready-to-cook dishes and culinary aids.
Chief Minister Majhi extended full support from the Odisha government, stating the project would be a significant step in boosting local employment and industrial growth. “Odisha welcomes Nestlé India’s vision and investment. This is a proud moment for our state,” he said.
Nestlé India Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. He highlighted that the new plant would embody sustainable and digital-first manufacturing practices while promoting gender diversity in the workforce.
The company, which began its manufacturing journey in India with its first factory in Moga, Punjab in 1961, has since expanded across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, Goa, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat. The upcoming Odisha plant will further enhance its national footprint while contributing to regional economic development.
Narayanan emphasized that this plant is not only about expanding production but also about building long-term partnerships with the local community and fostering inclusive growth.
