The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has revised the syllabus for Class 7 Social Science textbooks, replacing chapters on the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire with content on ancient Indian dynasties.

The move has sparked diverse opinions on its educational implications and potential political undertones.

The newly introduced textbook, Exploring Society – India and Beyond (Part 1), emphasises cultural heritage, economic systems, and governance. It includes a chapter titled “How the Land Becomes Sacred”, delving into pilgrimage sites across religious traditions and highlighting ancient Indian knowledge systems like Kautilya’s Arthashastra and Aryabhata’s astronomical contributions. Critics argue that this shift may reflect political influences, while NCERT officials defend it as a step towards innovative educational reform.

The second part of the revised syllabus is anticipated soon, keeping educators and students eager to explore its content.
