The Odisha Vigilance today apprehended the Principal of a degree college in Nayagarh District for taking a Rs 1 lakh bribe from a staffer to release his outstanding arrear salary of over Rs 5 lakh.
Nalini Ranjan Bhuian, Principal of Dadhibaman Jew +3 Mahavidyalaya at Bahadajhola, has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs.1 lakh from a staffer of the same college for the release of his outstanding arrear salary of over Rs.5 Lakhs, the Vigilance said.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid Tuesday, wherein the accused Principal Bhuian was trapped by the Vigilance team in his residence at Manikapatna for demanding and taking a bribe from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Bhuian and seized in the presence of witnesses. The left-hand wash of Bhuian gave positive chemical reaction, confirming his acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Bhuian at Manikapatna, Bahadjhola, Nayagarh and his office room.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.25/2024 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation, the Vigilance added.
