On the final day of Navratri 2025, devotees celebrate Maha Navami by worshipping Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga. This year, Navami falls on October 1, 2025, with the Navami Tithi beginning on September 30 at 6:06 PM and ending on October 1 at 7:01 PM.
Significance of Maha Navami
Maha Navami is one of the most important days of Navratri, marking the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. On this day, prayers are dedicated to Maa Siddhidatri, revered as the bestower of supernatural powers (Siddhis) and spiritual wisdom. Worshipping her is believed to bring prosperity, clarity, and inner strength.
Who is Maa Siddhidatri?
According to Hindu mythology, Maa Siddhidatri emerged when Lord Rudra invoked Adi-Parashakti during the creation of the universe. She manifested from the left half of Lord Shiva, leading to his Ardha-Narishwar form.
Maa Siddhidatri governs planet Ketu and blesses devotees with eight mystical powers (Anima, Mahima, Prapti, Prakamya, Garima, Laghima, Ishitva, Vashitva). Even Lord Shiva is said to have attained his Siddhis through her blessings. She is worshipped not only by humans but also by Gandharvas, Yakshas, Siddhas, and even Asuras.
Depicted seated on a lotus and riding a lion, she holds a mace and Sudarshan chakra in her right hands, and a lotus and shankh in her left. She is considered the remover of ignorance and the giver of wisdom.
