Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, 80, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.
He had been admitted to the ICU after collapsing at his home on August 8, sustaining a head injury.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political figures, including former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and former BJP MP Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, have expressed their condolences.
In a post on X, PM Modi described Ganesan as a devout nationalist who dedicated his life to public service and nation-building, and noted his efforts in expanding the BJP in Tamil Nadu and his passion for Tamil culture. Singh remembered Ganesan for his sincere commitment to the welfare of Manipur and his gentle humor. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh also expressed his shock and prayed for the departed soul.
Ganesan was appointed as the 21st Governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023, and officially took office eight days later.
