Bhubaneswar: A woman and her son were killed in lightning strikes while they were working in their farmland in Khaprakhol of Bolangir district on Wednesday. The deceased woman and her son have been identified as Suryakanti Kharsel and her son Deepak (18).
The deceased woman’s brother-in-law Purandar Kharsel, who was left critically injured after being struck by lightning, was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the tragic incident and announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia compensation for the next of kin of the deceased.
Earlier, three people lost their lives and three others sustained severe injuries after being struck by lightning at Dewandihi village in Padmapur of Bargarh district. They were seeking shelter from the rain under a banyan tree when the lightning struck. The CM also announced Rs 4 lakh compensation for next of the kin of each deceased.
Along with this, the Chief Minister directed the district administration to ensure proper medical treatment for the seriously injured victims and prayed for their speedy recovery.
