Morocco defeated Jordan 3-2 after extra time to secure their second FIFA Arab Cup crown on Thursday night at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
Abderrazak Hamdallah scored twice, while Oussama Tannane added one for Morocco. Jordan’s Ali Olwan struck a brace to keep his side in contention until the final minutes.
Coach Tarik Sektioui’s squad showcased Morocco’s depth ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup, where Walid Regragui’s team will aim to improve on their fourth-place finish from the last edition.
Tannane stunned the 84,517 spectators in the fourth minute with a spectacular long-range strike from inside his own half, beating Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila. Morocco pressed further, but Jordan held firm until halftime.
After the break, Olwan equalised with a header in the 48th minute and later converted a penalty in the 62nd to give Jordan the lead. However, Hamdallah restored parity in the 87th minute, his goal awarded after VAR overturned an offside flag.
Extra-time brought more drama. Jordan briefly celebrated a goal from Mohannad Abu Taha, but VAR ruled a handball in the build-up. In the 100th minute, Hamdallah capitalised on Marwane Saadane’s bicycle-kick attempt, slotting home the decisive strike. Morocco held on through the final minutes to lift their second Arab Cup trophy.
