Reports from Tehran indicate that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been named Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
Mojtaba Khamenei has long held influence behind the scenes. Analysts describe him as a powerful figure within Iran’s political and security circles, despite never holding a formal senior government post. He reportedly managed access to his father’s inner circle, influenced appointments within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and oversaw sensitive intelligence matters.
As the second son of Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba emerged as a leading candidate for succession. His deep ties with the IRGC and reputation for preserving the revolutionary legacy positioned him as a figure capable of maintaining continuity.
There is no officially designated successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Assembly of Experts, a clerical body responsible for appointing the Supreme Leader, will make the selection. Several names have surfaced as possible contenders, yet the process remains confidential.
