Serious allegations have emerged against Dr. Dillip Pradhan, an Assistant Professor in the Orthopaedics Department at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, for allegedly referring a patient from the casualty ward to a private hospital under questionable circumstances, resulting in the patient’s death.

According to sources, Balram Gouda, a resident of Baghalati in Golanthara, was first admitted to MKCG with critical injuries. However, he was allegedly directed—through a junior postgraduate doctor—to a private hospital in Berhampur, where he later succumbed to his condition. The family of the deceased has accused Dr. Pradhan of orchestrating the referral for personal gain, bypassing established medical protocols.

In response to the allegations, MKCG Superintendent Prof. Durga Madhab Satapathy has ordered an internal inquiry into the incident. A committee, comprising senior medical staff including the Registrar, has been formed and is expected to submit its report within 24 hours.

“Loss of a young life is not acceptable. A committee has been formed and necessary actions will follow based on its findings,” Prof. Satapathy stated.

So far, Dr. Pradhan has not issued any public statement or response regarding the allegations.

Meanwhile, social activist Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo claimed that the victim’s family was unaware of the committee’s formation until learning about it on social media. He urged hospital authorities to ensure a transparent and unbiased investigation, adding, “We seek justice.”

This incident has sparked public outrage and reignited concerns about ethical violations and negligence in Odisha’s public healthcare system.
