Odisha has launched a historic initiative to strengthen women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and community support staff under Mission Shakti.
Smart Phones, Uniforms, and ID Cards
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced that more than 46,000 CRP sisters will receive smartphones. In addition, all community support staff will get new uniforms and official identity cards, marking a fresh identity for Mission Shakti’s grassroots workforce.
Interest Reimbursement for SHGs
At the Mission Shakti Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, the state government rolled out the fourth phase of the interest reimbursement program for SHGs. Over Rs 197.66 crore was reimbursed to 2,80,586 SHGs, reducing the financial burden of bank loans and enabling women to expand their livelihood activities. Since the beginning of FY 2025-26, more than Rs 515 crore has already been reimbursed.
Economic Empowerment
By making bank loans up to Rs 10 lakh interest-free, the government ensures that SHG members can invest in businesses without worrying about debt. This step directly boosts income, strengthens women-led enterprises, and contributes to Odisha’s overall economic progress.
National Context
Parida also highlighted the Union Government’s focus on expanding the Lakhpati Didi scheme and promoting SHE Mart clusters, which align with Odisha’s mission to transform women’s empowerment into a sustainable and powerful economic force.
Commitment to Women-Led Growth
Mission Shakti’s latest measures reaffirm Odisha’s commitment to making women self-reliant, capable, and empowered. The initiative not only uplifts individual livelihoods but also strengthens the state’s socio-economic fabric.
