Debris from an intercepted ballistic missile killed two people and injured three others on Sweihan Road in Abu Dhabi, according to UAE authorities.
The missile interception occurred over the UAE capital, but fragments from the destroyed projectile fell on a busy road, striking vehicles and pedestrians. Emergency teams responded immediately. The victims remain unidentified, and the injured are receiving medical care.
Officials confirmed the missile was successfully intercepted. However, the incident highlights the dangers posed by falling debris during air defence operations. The Abu Dhabi Media Office urged the public to rely on verified sources and avoid spreading rumours.
The region remains volatile following a joint US-Israel offensive on Iran launched on February 28. The strike killed over 1,340 people, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran targeted Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets with drones and missiles. These attacks have caused casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
