The group clash between Palaput Sahi and Gariaghat Sahi, which started during Holi, has intensified over time, leading to tragic consequences.
Police have arrested six individuals from Gariaghat Sahi and presented them in court, while others involved remain at large.
Seven residents of Palaput Sahi were injured in the clashes, with a minor being critically wounded. Initially treated at Koraput Hospital, the minor was later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The situation escalated further when grieving residents of Palaput Sahi, angered by the minor’s death, placed his body on the road and blocked the Laxmipur-Parbatipur route. Hundreds of villagers, including men and women, gathered at the Balipeta intersection, burning tyres and demanding immediate arrests and strict action against those responsible for the tragedy.
Authorities, including Tehsildar Debabrata Maharana, SDPO Laxmipur Tofan Bag, Police Station Officer Pramod Kumar Naik, and Narayanpatna Panchayat Samiti Chairman Goladi Trinath, reached the scene to pacify the villagers. However, as of the latest reports, no resolution has been reached, and the blockade continues.
Tensions remain high in the area as the affected community calls for justice. Authorities are working to restore peace and address the demands of the aggrieved residents.
