The POCSO Court in Bargarh on Tuesday pronounced its verdict in the horrific rape and murder case of a minor girl that took place in the Paikmal police station area in November 2024.
The court sentenced the accused Prashant Bag alias Bariha to death.
According to case details, on November 15, 2024, the accused lured the minor girl from her home under the pretext of going to catch fish. He then raped and murdered her. Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the local police station.
Police arrested Prashant Bag soon after the complaint was filed, and the case was taken up by the Bargarh POCSO Court. After months of trial and examination of evidence, the court delivered the capital punishment, underscoring the seriousness of crimes against minors.
The verdict has drawn strong reactions locally, with many residents and activists calling it a landmark judgment in ensuring justice for victims of sexual violence.
