The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday officially transferred the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Security forces continued to maintain a tight vigil at the attack site in Baisaran near Pahalgam, where 26 tourists lost their lives in one of Kashmir’s deadliest recent terror incidents.
According to a statement from the NIA, teams led by senior officers—an Inspector General (IG), a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and a Superintendent of Police (SP)—have been deployed to reconstruct the sequence of events. “Eyewitnesses who saw the horrifying attack are being questioned in detail to piece together the timeline and actions leading to the tragedy,” the agency said.
The NIA teams are also meticulously examining all entry and exit points in the area for any leads that could shed light on the terrorists’ movements and operational planning. Assisted by forensic experts, the investigation is combing through the entire crime scene for crucial evidence.
“The goal is to expose the full terror conspiracy behind the attack that has stunned the nation,” the NIA statement added.
The transfer of the case to India’s top anti-terror agency signals the seriousness of the investigation as authorities work to track down the perpetrators and uncover any wider networks involved.
