Bhubaneswar: The maximum day temperature rose to 40 °C or above at as many as 22 places in Odisha with Boudh becoming the hottest place in the state with 44.5 °C, informed the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre on Tuesday.
As per the latest IMD bulletin, day temperature breached the 43 °C mark in nine places i.e., Boudh (44.5 °C), Jharsuguda (43.9 °C), Bolangir & Baripada (43.8 °C), Sonepur (43.6 °C), Titilagarh (43.5 °C), Angul (43.1 °C), Sambalpur (43.1 °C) & Sundargarh (43 °C).
Mercury also breached 42 °C mark in 14 other places in the state.
In the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the day temperature stood at 39.6 °C and 39.8 °C respectively.
“Due to Northwesterly/Westerly dry air at lower levels and high solar insolation, maximum day temperature is very likely to rise slightly by 2 °C at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha during the next 2 days and due to incursion of southerly along the coastal area and near surface levels maximum temperature likely to fall slightly by about 2 °C over the district of coastal Odisha during the next 2 days and there will be no large change thereafter,” the IMD said.
The maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5 °C at many places over the districts of interior Odisha and likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 °C at a few places over of coastal Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during daytime between 11 am to 3 pm,” the IMD bulletin further reads.
