Jharsuguda minor rape case

A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Gangapur police limits in Ganjam district, where a 13-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by her own uncle. The incident came to light after the girl, who had been staying in her native village while her parents were in Bhubaneswar, began showing signs of illness. Medical tests revealed she was five months pregnant.

The family initially filed a complaint with Mancheswar police, accusing a relative of sexual exploitation during their absence. When no action was taken, they approached Gangapur police on August 16. However, the girl’s father claims the police delayed action due to political sensitivities surrounding recent rape cases in the district.

Frustrated by the alleged apathy, the father has threatened suicide along with his family if authorities fail to arrest the accused, who remains absconding. The case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for swift justice and better protection for vulnerable minors.
